An Anecdotal story.

In this past couple weeks, a number of very funny and telling things have happened. While I was sitting at my desk preparing to leave for the day, Rodrigo approached me and stated
"Ms. Lund I noticed something. When they film football games they use a lot wide shots."
"I agree Rodrigo.... why do you think they do that," I asked in response.
"Well because you want to see the entire game and you don't want to miss any action."

Rodrigo is eight and is in my technology after school class. He is taking what we are learning and bringing it into his home and his real life.

A week later, I walked outside and saw the best sight. I had been dealing with a student conflict and asked two of my students, Lizbeth and Aileen, to start preparing their video. When I got outside, they had a lapel mic set up on little Jonny from my neighboring teacher's classroom (who thought he was in trouble, but was surprised to find that he was being asked to do an interview), Lizbeth was repositioning the video camera so it would be on eye level, Aileen was practicing her interview questions and Abraham was trying to figure out if there was too much light.

These are third graders. They are learning new skills and feeling proud of themselves and excited for their future. This class is challenging me and my students to not set the bar too low. We must enable and allow our students to explore and to experience the world around them.
